Clinical Research Statement

The Clinical Research Department will help PeaceHealth Medical Group provide the best possible health care services by providing access for our patients and physicians to cutting-edge, innovative therapies and by affording the opportunity to participate in clinical research. The availability of such access allows our patients and physicians alike to remain at the vanguard of the health care industry.

Since its inception in 1999, the Clinical Research Department has successfully completed more than 55 Phase II - IV national clinical trials of investigative medical treatments and drugs. These trials test the safety and effectiveness of medicines or treatments that have already completed the initial phase of human participation. Our clinical trials are well-controlled, closely monitored studies that give patients the opportunity to be a part of the research and development of new treatments for a multitude of conditions including: diabetes, COPD, asthma, obesity, atrial fibrillation, fibromyalgia, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Our coordinators, comprised of nurses and medical assistants, are trained and certified in clinical research and maintain an excellent reputation in the research community.

Clinical trial participation is always completely voluntary, and an extensive written Informed Consent is required to participate. Patient protection and privacy is our first priority. It is our policy that no confidential information obtained as part of a research trial be released without your written consent, which may be withdrawn at anytime during a trial.

Patients are not charged for medical services that are received as part of a clinical research trial. All physician visits, medical tests and investigative medication or procedures are provided free of charge if part of a clinical research trial. Some trials may pay a stipend to participants in recognition of their commitment to the time and travel involved in a study. The amount varies, depending on the nature of the trial, as well as the number of visits required and the length of each visit.
