Premature Babies
Babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy are considered premature. The earlier a baby is born, the greater their risk for complications. Some of these complications include growth and mental development impairments,
jaundice, temperature stability issues, respiratory problems and feeding challenges.
At PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, babies born prematurely are immediately placed in our Special Care Nursery where they receive one-on-one care. Our Special Care Nursery is staffed with skilled nurses and specialized technology, ensuring expert care is provided to babies requiring a higher level of care. Care received in the Nursery decreases a baby’s hospital stay by three to five days.
Extended or long-term care may require mechanical support. In these situations, we use infant transport (a specialized transport service) to utilize services found in Everett or Seattle.
