Nutrition & Diabetes Clinic

The PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Nutrition & Diabetes Clinic works with patients, either individually or in groups, to help them discover the best ways to manage their health through diet, nutrition, exercise, lifestyle changes, or, if needed, improved use of diabetes medications, including insulin.

More than fifty percent of the Nutrition & Diabetes Clinic patients have diabetes. The clinic staff supports those who are new to living with diabetes, those who just want to find out what is new with diabetes management, or those who feel overwhelmed and frustrated managing their diabetes. We understand the challenges of living with diabetes and trying to make health and lifestyle changes.

Benefits of Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical nutrition therapy and diabetes self-management education are highly effective in the treatment and prevention of many nutrition-related diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. Better food choices can improve energy, endurance and well being, and they can slow the progression of chronic diseases. Our care focuses on helping individuals achieve their nutrition and health goals in a positive and supportive environment.

Cost/Insurance

You will be asked for your insurance information prior to your clinic visit. Nearly all insurance providers in the state of Washington cover diabetes education, including Medicare & Medicaid. Insurance providers often reimburse for nutrition counseling, but this can vary with each individual insurance policy.

Physician Referral

A physician referral is required for a visit to the Nutrition & Diabetes Clinic. Please ask your health care provider to fax a referral to our clinic, or we can ask your provider for a referral when you schedule an appointment.
