Auxiliary Background

In May 1942, a group of women joined together under the name of St. Anne's Guild to socialize and roll bandages for St. Joseph Hospital. During the war years, the need at St. Joseph increased, and the group changed their name to St. Joseph Auxiliary, continuing their work and raising money for the hospital through annual dues and meeting attendance. Out of this first auxiliary came four other auxiliaries in 1950 and, by 1979, 11 separate auxiliaries had been established. Five auxiliaries are active today.

To further their common goal of supporting patient care, the auxiliaries formed St. Joseph's Central Auxiliary, a group comprised of the president of each auxiliary and elected board members. Central Auxiliary is an umbrella group that coordinates the various auxiliaries' contributions to the hospital. The individual auxiliaries select needed hospital programs or equipment as their project and organize fundraising activities to reach their goal. Each of the auxiliaries participate in Central Auxiliary projects but continue to meet as individual groups, each with their own history, elected officers, projects, shared interests and meeting schedules.

The auxiliaries of PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center play a vital role in supporting quality patient care through a variety of fun and worthwhile service projects. If you desire to meet others and support community health, we welcome your involvement in any of our existing auxiliaries. For more information, please contact us.
