Rheumatology

Rheumatology is the study and treatment of rheumatic diseases.  Rheumatologists deal with clinical issues involving joints, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases, vasculitis, and heritable connective tissue disorders.

Rheumatism is a non-specific term most often used to describe any painful disorder affecting movement, including joints, muscles, connective tissues, soft tissues around the joints and bones.  Specific rheumatological disorders include rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, and systemic lupus erythematosus.
