Catherine Bree Johnston, MD

Catherine Bree Johnston, MD Dr. Catherine Bree Johnston serves as the strategic team leader, a direct provider of care for both inpatients and outpatients, and educator for health care professionals for PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center. Additionally, she is the medical director of Palliative Care for the entire PeaceHealth system and is working to standardize care, using policies that have been shown to be most effective.

She spent 16 years on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, where she held many responsibilities, including: Director of the Geriatrics Fellowship program; Principle Investigator of the Donald W. Reynolds Aging & Quality of Life Program grant; and an attending physician and educator in the areas of palliative care, geriatrics, ethics, and health policy.  

She relocated to Bellingham, Wash., in 2011 to start our Palliative Care program because she saw the community as being a very rich environment for health care innovation. Dr. Johnston brings years of educational experience, numerous honors and awards, and a track record of implementing innovative and successful programs.  

Dr. Johnston is board-certified in geriatrics, palliative medicine and internal medicine. She serves on the geriatric exam writing committee for the American Board of Internal Medicine.
