Patients and families work closely with a team of rehabilitation experts to design a treatment plan that suits each person's needs. The team at ORC includes:
A physiatrist is a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. The physiatrist provides clinical direction, medical management and oversight of the rehab treatment plan.
A rehabilitation nurse provides direct patient care using specialized clinical skills. The rehabilitation nurse acts as a patient and family advocate and educator.
The occupational therapist assesses functional limitations and designed a treatment plan to maximize each patient’s independence. The occupational therapist teaches self-care and other activities of daily living, and educates the patient in the use of adaptive equipment.
The physical therapist assesses each patient’s physical capabilities and strength, implements a treatment plan to improve functional mobility, and teaches patients to use orthotics, prostheses, walking devices and wheelchairs.
Speech and Language Pathologist
The speech and language pathologist assesses language, cognitive and swallowing abilities, and designs and implements treatment plans to address deficits.
The neuropsychologist evaluates cognitive, intellectual and behavioral function, and counsels patients and families in facilitating the recovery process.
Social Work/Care Manager
The social work/care manager assists patients and their families with discharge planning, health care coverage issues and financial resources, as well as the support plan for the patient’s return home.
