Oregon Heart & Vascular Institute hosting "Weight of the Nation" screening, discussion
9/6/2012 12:00 AM
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, and running for eight consecutive Wednesdays, Oregon Heart & Vascular Institute will host free screenings and guided discussions of the HBO series “Weight of the Nation.”
The series, aired on HBO last spring, takes an unflinching look at the obesity crisis and its crippling effects on health and health care.
Meetings will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in OHVI Conference Room 12C, at the south end of Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, 3333 RiverBend Dr., Springfield. They’ll begin with 30-minute airings of the series, followed by discussion.
The series—a collaboration between HBO, the Institute of Medicine, Centers for Disease Control, the National Institute of Health, the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and Kaiser Permanente—aims to spark a national campaign to slow, arrest and ideally reverse the prevalence of obesity. The first screening at OHVI will look at Bogalusa, Louisiana, where researchers have been tracking and chronicling citizens’ health challenges for 40 years.
