Esophageal Cancer Surgery

Advanced Procedures + Extensive Experience = Excellent Results

Improvements in surgical techniques for esophagectomy have resulted in better patient outcomes and faster return to functional and physical abilities.

Advanced Laparoscopic Esophagectomy

Now routinely performed at Sacred Heart Medical Center, this procedure uses specialized techniques, small incisions, and cameras with microscopes and high-definition monitors to remove the esophagus.

Transhiatus Esophagectomy

Our surgeons perform transhiatus esophagectomy, with approach from the abdomen and a left neck incision, avoiding a chest incision and potentially decreasing post-operative pain and recovery.

Ivor-Lewis Esophagectomy

This procedure involves approach from the abdomen and the right chest and may be safer for patients with significant scarring from previous chemotherapy, radiation or esophageal surgery.
