Imaging allows radiologists and other doctors to “see” inside the body by means of x-rays or other types of scans. Sacred Heart provides specialized imaging services for children of all ages, whether they are inpatients or outpatients.
A pediatrician may request that one or more of the following types of scans be done to help diagnose illness or injury in your child:
Parents may accompany their child to the imaging area and stay with him or her until the start of the procedure. Some imaging procedures take just a minute or two; others may take an hour or more.
Some imaging procedures, such as CT, MRI and VCUG, require children to lie very still for a period of time. Young children may need to be anesthetized (put to sleep) for these scans. Our Pediatric Sedation Support Team helps smooth the way for children and parents and assists the anesthesiologist in putting the child to sleep. With scans that use radiation, Sacred Heart is committed to using the lowest effective dose of radiation necessary for your child.
