Pediatric and Adolescent Care Unit

Kids can get very sick very quickly, and accidents can happen in a minute. But with proper care, kids can heal just as fast. They deserve the most advanced medical care—scaled to their size. And they need their family’s support, in the hospital as well as at home.

At Sacred Heart’s Pediatric and Adolescent Care Unit, we treat patients from infancy to young adulthood, but we don’t treat them all the same. We are committed to meeting the individual needs of each of our patients.

We provide inpatient care for an array of conditions:

  • Medical (acute illness)
  • Surgical
  • Chronic disease
  • Injury

We also provide limited outpatient care for children, including:

  • Major imaging studies
  • Outpatient infusion

In everything we do, we recognize that kids are different from other patients. Their health and well-being is our only concern. All of our nurses are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Children’s medications all come from a special pediatric pharmacy inside the hospital, to make sure they get the right-size dose of the right medications. Our secure unit and HALO infant protection system provide families with peace of mind. Every member of our staff is specially trained to give age-specific pediatric care.

Family-Centered Care

The emotional support of parents, siblings and friends helps children heal. We include patients’ families in their treatment. Our 16 private patient rooms are designed to accommodate families and help kids feel at home. Family-centered care also means giving patients a fun place to spend time with family members and friends. Kids and their visitors can enjoy DVDs, video games, board games and art supplies in our indoor Clubhouse. And they can relax, take a walk or even shoot hoops in our open-air Treehouse.
