Nuclear Medicine Therapy

Most nuclear medicine diagnosis is done with radioactive elements that emit gamma rays. Nuclear medicine therapy uses elements that emit beta particles to actually destroy unwanted cancer cells and tissue and to help relieve pain. Nuclear Medicine therapy is done to treat conditions such as an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism or Graves’ disease), thyroid cancer, and to relieve pain for patients with metastatic bone cancer.
