Nuclear Medicine: Gastrointestinal Scans

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is part of the digestive system, which is responsible for processing ingested food to provide nutrients for the body to function. Nuclear Medicine gastrointestinal studies:

  • Measure the ability of the stomach to process food (Gastric Emptying study)
  • Detect the presence of a particular type of tissue (Meckel’s Diverticulum)
  • Detect the presence of a bacterium in the stomach (Urea Breath Test)
  • Detect leaking of blood into the intestinal tract (GI Bleed study)
