Surgical Weight Loss
Depending on your Body Mass Index, you may qualify for what is known as “bariatric” or weight loss surgery. Bariatric weight loss surgeries significantly jump-start weight loss.
At the Oregon Bariatric Center, our procedures are performed laparoscopically. In this technique, a thin, lighted tube (laparoscope) is put through a small cut (incision) made in the patient’s belly so the surgeon can look at the abdomen. A small camera transmits images of the organs onto a TV screen. Other tools and lasers may be attached to the laparoscope for the surgeon to use during the procedure.
Compared to traditional surgery, laparoscopic procedures result in fewer infections and hernias, a shorter hospital stay, and a quicker return to work or normal activities. The procedure also results in a very small scar that will fade over time.
