PHMG Article Selected as National Finalist

An article written by the PeaceHealth Medical Group (PHMG) medical director, clinic manager for pediatrics, and associate medical director for pediatrics has been selected as one of the top five finalists for the Edward B. Stevens Article of the Year Award by the Medical Group Management Association-American College of Medical Practice Executives (MGMG-ACMPE).

Peter Valenzuela, MD, MBA, medical director for PHMG, collaborated with clinic manager Bonita Criswell and Greg Thompson, MD, MPA, on an article titled, "Using LEAN to redesign your team." The article appeared in the August 2011 edition of MGMG Connexion.

The article delineated the value stream mapping process used by PHMG to create greater staff efficiency and improve patient satisfaction, while working to meet an increasing demand for pediatric care.

According to William Henderson of the MGMA-ACMPE, the PHMG article is in the running for the association’s “highest form of recognition” provided to medical practice professionals who have “made a substantial contribution to the body of published literature to foster more effective and efficient health care delivery” in practice management.

Members of the association have until July 27 to vote online for the one of the five finalists.

MGMA-ACMPE, with more than 22,000 members nationwide, is considered the premier membership association for professional leaders of medical group practices.
