Meet Jim Barnhart

In June 2009, PeaceHealth appointed Jim Barnhart to lead the planning and implementation phase of building and operating the new PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center.  Barnhart had served for nearly two decades as the CEO and Chief Mission Officer of PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence, Oregon. Under Barnhart’s leadership, this Critical Access Hospital and its PeaceHealth Medical Group physicians consistently achieved excellent clinical and service outcomes for their patients and community.

Since his appointment, Barnhart has been consulting with the physicians and the staff at the Inter Island Medical Center (IIMC), working on completion of the acquisition of the site and its annexation into the Town of Friday Harbor, and heading all phases of planning for the new facility.  He has worked closely with Islanders serving on the local Design and Steering Committees in moving the project forward and has brought expertise from PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham to assist with the clinical and technical aspects of the building plans. His goals are to create a comfortable and welcoming facility that will become the focus for healthcare and wellness activities for the entire community and to expand access to the highest quality of healthcare for Islanders and visitors of all ages.
