A Place of Healing
The design process for PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center has focused on creating a place used by the community for wellness and gathering as well as in times of medical need. Therefore, a concerted effort has been made to plan a facility that will offer an atmosphere of quiet, simplicity, warmth and healing that makes all who come feel welcome and comfortable. Several elemental concepts have guided development of the design.
- The facility should touch the site lightly, assuring that buildings and vehicles have minimal impact on the land.
- The space should be designed for maximum flexibility and efficient workflow to best serve our patients and community.
- Collecting, restoring and reusing limited resources on the Island and preserving the natural biodiversity are essential.
- Energy demands should be reduced and supplemented through innovative engineering and operations systems.
- Nourishing the human spirit is, at all times, fundamental to healing and should be reflected in our facilities and services.
