Saturday & After-Hours Care
Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center institute a Saturday clinic?
Yes, beginning in mid-May, PeaceHealth Peace Island (PIMC) will open a Saturday clinic. Appointments will be available from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Q: What if I have an urgent need and can’t get into my primary care provider?
There are now numerous same-day or open appointment slots each day at the PIMC clinic. Clinic schedulers will do everything possible to work you in for an appointment the same day you call, particularly if you are willing to be seen by any of our practitioners. It’s best to call as early as possible during the day to receive an appointment that same day.
Q: What should I do if I need a doctor appointment but don’t think an ED visit is appropriate?
Call the clinic Monday-Friday and ask for an appointment. It helps if you are able to call as soon as you can after 8 a.m., and if you are willing to be seen by any of our practitioners available on the day you call.
Q: What if I need care on the weekend?
PeaceHealth Peace Island nurses and physicians are available on-call over the weekend to provide care via the Emergency Department (ED). Some are concerned that care through the ED is much more expensive. However, the cost is comparable (lowest likely ED visit cost is approximately $167, while the most common InterIsland Medical Center (IIMC) Saturday clinic fee bill totaled $165. (The difference is likely to be the co-pay, which was around $20 at IIMC but for hospital-based care is closer to $100, with insurance.)
