Our Founder and Staff
Sister Eleanor Gilmore
Sister Eleanor Gilmore was the founder and first Director of PeaceHealth's El Salvador Health Ministry, a work of love to which she brought the experience of her lifetime, and her love for the people of El Salvador.
As both director and founder, she had the opportunity to live the PeaceHealth and CSJP mission by helping to bring a healing culture to the poor of El Salvador through her own work and that of volunteers. She retired in January, 2009, and now lives in Bellevue, Washington, where she provides pastoral care for the Sisters at St. Mary-on-the-Lake.
Kathy Garcia is Director of International Missions for PeaceHealth. She works and lives in Eugene, Oregon. Kathy leads the El Salvador Health Mission program, organizing mission trips, recruiting volunteers, soliciting donations of medications and cash, and representing PeaceHealth in international health organizations.
Before she became part of the El Salvador Health Mission in 2001, Kathy worked in Radiology and the Cardiac Cath Lab at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene. Now she uses her organizational and people skills to make each mission trip a success for volunteers and patients. Kathy says that being a part of an organization offering health care to those in need is a fulfilling experience.
Darren Streff is PazSalud's In-Country Coordinator, charged with preparations for the missions, with follow-up, and with ongoing liaison with our Salvadoran partners. Darren served as a PeaceCorps Volunteer in Mauretania in the 1990s, worked in health policy and communication in the U.S., and came to El Salvador in 2012 as a Maryknoll Lay Missioner. He finds fulfillment in meeting and working with the people of El Salvador, and also enjoys opportunities to use his handyman skills, always in demand during the missions.
