Dr. McClelland received his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his medical training from the University of Connecticut in Farmington and completed his residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He completed a cardiology fellowship with Oregon Health & Science University and a research fellowship at Duke University.

Prior to joining Oregon Cardiology in 1997, he was tenured Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma, where he performed advanced ablation therapy of heart rhythm disturbances. He has been the co-chair of the Northwest Electrophysiology Society since 1999 and was appointed Medical Director of Heart Rhythm Services at the Oregon Heart & Vascular Institute in December 2004.
