Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation
Campaign for RiverBend

Take a virtual tour of Sacred Heart's new RiverBend hospital.

Why move to RiverBend?
Our community’s healthcare needs are growing so fast that Sacred Heart’s Hilyard Street hospital cannot keep pace with the demand today, let alone the 40% increase projected by 2010.
  • Despite the increased demand, the hospital’s facilities have not expanded in two decades.
  • Technology and methods of care have changed and require a different, more flexible configuration of space not possible at the existing hospital Many of its buildings are out of compliance with current standards. To overhaul these facilities while continuing to care for patients would be costly and nearly impossible.

  • There is no room in the area to expand. To move west into the bordering neighborhood would be a huge disruption of neighborhood residents and businesses.

How will RiverBend advance local healthcare?
Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend will transform medical care in our community. It is designed to incorporate advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies as soon as they become available.

Among the new technologies are image-guided surgery and robotics, which will mean safer, less invasive procedures resulting in decreased pain and recovery time for patients.

Many of RiverBend’s design features were chosen because of their direct effect on healing. For example, single-patient rooms decrease rates of infection and enhance communication between patient and caregivers.

Even the selection of the McKenzie River setting was done with the patient in mind. Natural views shorten patient stays and reduce medication needs. Environmental stewardship practices will ensure the continuing serenity and beauty of this special place.

A state-of-the-art computer system will support the staff of clinicians and result in faster diagnoses and improved patient outcomes.

RiverBend’s leading-edge design and technological advances will attract and help retain topnotch physicians to our area, a direct benefit to the entire region.

How will the Hilyard hospital continue to serve the community?
Sacred Heart is committed to revitalizing the Hilyard Street campus. Up to 1,400 employees are expected to work at this hospital, serving hundreds of patients and their families each day. The campus will provide:

  • More than 100 hospital beds

  • A 24-hour Emergency Department

  • PeaceHealth Medical Group primary care physicians and specialists

  • Inpatient and outpatient services

  • Home health services

  • Hospice care

  • Imaging services

  • A pharmacy and laboratory

  • Health education

  • Patient financial services

  • Information, administrative and support services for the hospital and clinics

How will RiverBend be funded?
The estimated cost to build and equip the new medical center is $350 million.

Knowing this day would come, Sacred Heart has been saving reserves for many years. Those reserves total $120 million. Tax-exempt bonds will provide an additional $200 million.

The Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation’s volunteer board has agreed to raise the remaining $30 million through the community-based Campaign for RiverBend. Gifts of all sizes from donors throughout the region will be earmarked to equip the hospital with the most advanced medical equipment and technology available.

How can you help support our community’s future healthcare?
Your support will play a vital role in ensuring that Sacred Heart’s legacy of compassionate quality care, if ever needed, will continue for your family, your friends, your neighbors and yourself.

You can make gifts of cash, stocks, real estate or other appreciated securities.

Commemorative and memorial gifts, along with naming opportunities at various sites in the new hospital, are available. These types of gifts are a heartfelt way to contribute and, at the same time, pay tribute to a special person or event in your life.

Consider making a multiyear pledge to RiverBend. Pledging gives you the opportunity to give on your terms. Pledges may be fulfilled over five years. A gift over three, four or five years ensures that you will make a valued difference now and for years to come.

All gifts are tax deductible to the full extent the law allows.

The Campaign for RiverBend is your opportunity to help create a medical center that will truly transform healthcare, and the lives of many people, in your community. All gifts, large and small, are important and will be gratefully received and graciously recognized. Your caring and generosity will help us reach our $30 million goal.
