Spiritual Care Multi-faith
staff and volunteer chaplains provide direct patient care relating to emotional and spiritual issues at no cost to patients and
families. Services are provided on both the RiverBend and University District campuses of Sacred Heart Medical Center and include, pastoral counseling, patient and family support, advocacy, crisis intervention, and prayer services.
Spiritual Care also offers these programs:
- Advance Directive assistance. Chaplains can help support you and your family through the process of filling out Advance Directives or making difficult health care decisions. You can download Advance Directive forms and get additional guidance from the
Partners to Improve End of Life
Care, a local community coalition dedicated to improving end of life care through education, advocacy, and support; click on “Important Decisions.”
- Strings of Compassion. Trained music thanatologists use harp and voice to help care for the dying in the hospital, at home, or in a care facility.
- No One Dies Alone. Volunteers provide the reassuring presence of a companion for dying
hospital patients who would otherwise be alone.
- Prayer Care. Would you like to be held in prayer each day during your hospital stay?
- Tigger Visits Thursdays. By request, Tigger can visit hospital patients Thursday morning with bounds of blessings.
- Care Channel. Hospital patients may tune to Channel 2 on their TV for music to aid rest, healing and relaxation.
- Caregiver Support Group. Meet and get support from others who care for loved ones struggling with chronic illness.
- Bereavement Support and Memorial Services.
- A Peaceful Place of Rest for pregnancy loss. A memorial service is held at Mount Calvary Cemetery (220 Crest Drive) twice each year, at noon on the first Saturday of May and of November, to offer hope and peace to those grieving the loss of a pregnancy. All are welcome to attend.
- Sacramental Care. Catholic Eucharist and anointing of the sick is available in the hospital by request.
