Flu Shot Clinics Canceled

Due to the national shortage of flu vaccines, we will not be offering the Flu Shot Clinics announced in the fall issue of our Community Health newsletter.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends flu vaccines be given to those who have been identified as being at highest risk for influenza. A limited supply of influenza vaccine is available for those at highest risk for complications from the flu. Please contact your physician or the Lane County Public Health if you fit one of the following categories:

  • all children aged 6-23 months;

  • adults aged 65 years and older;

  • persons aged 2-64 years with underlying chronic medical conditions;

  • all women who will be pregnant during the influenza season;

  • residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities;

  • children aged 6 months-18 years on chronic aspirin therapy;

  • health-care workers involved in direct patient care; and

  • out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children less than 6 months old.

For more information, visit the Centers for Disease Control Web site.

Also, the State of Oregon has information available.

Stop the spread of germs

Especially during flu season, it’s important to take these simple precautions to protect your health and the health of others:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand cleaner

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth

  • Avoid contact with people who are sick, if possible

  • Do not share eating utensils, drinking glasses or other personal items

  • Cover your cough or sneeze

  • Dispose used tissue in waste basket

  • Stay home when you are sick and wear a mask to protect others

During flu season, some of our staff may choose to wear a mask. Please do not be alarmed. They are helping to prevent the spread of germs.
