Out of 100 people who take statins, 4 to 5 will die within the next 3 to 5 years, compared to 5 out of 100 who do not take statins. 3 to 4 out of 100 who take statins will have a heart attack within the next 3 to 5 years, compared to 4 to 5 out of 100 who do not take statins. 1 to 2 out of 100 people who take statins will have a stroke, compared to 2 out of 100 who do not take statins.
