Effects of Statins if You Have Heart Disease

These numbers are for people who have heart disease. Out of 100 people who take statins, 8 to 9 will die within the next 3 to 5 years, compared to 11 to 12 out of 100 who do not take statins. 3 to 4 out of 100 who take statins will die of a heart attack or stroke within the next 3 to 5 years, compared to 8 to 9 out of 100 who do not take statins. 5 to 6 out of 100 who take statins will have a nonfatal heart attack within the next 3 to 5 years, compared to 8 to 9 out of 100 who do not take statins.
