Physical Therapy

We offer a full compliment of therapies

Physical Therapy - The goal of Physical Therapy is functional mobility.

Physical Therapy services are available to patients admitted to Ketchikan General Hospital in the Medical/Surgical Unit or in the Transitional Care Unit. Outpatient services are provided in the Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic and through the Home Health Department. Interdisciplinary team meetings and ongoing communication with nurses, doctors, social workers and Home Health staff assist patients and caregivers as they work toward their goals.

INPATIENT
In the ICU and Medical/Surgical Unit therapy may be provided in the patient’s room or the rehabilitation gym located near the patient rooms. Patients and therapists also use the hallways to practice and strengthen mobility skills. The therapy plan of care is coordinated with other members of the acute medical care team including doctors, nurses, social workers, the diabetes educator and registered dietician.

TRANSITIONAL CARE UNIT
Patients are encouraged to work with therapy within their room, bathroom, hallway, and the therapy gym. The Transitional Care Unit has an outdoor area, an activity room, and a large kitchen area to simulate home challenges to help patients adapt to conditions they will encounter when they return home.

OUTPATIENT REHABILITATION
The Outpatient Rehabilitiation Facility is on the ground floor adjacent to the Emergency Room. There are designated parking places and easy access directly from the parking lot. Through the KGH Foundation 2008 Gift of Healing campaign, new state-of-the-art equipment was added to Outpatient Rehab. There is an open gym area and separate rooms for patients to see their therapists privately.

HOME HEALTH SERVICES
Home Health arranges physical therapy services either in the home, at the Pioneer Home or at facilities elsewhere in the community like the warm pool at the Parks and Recreation Swim Center for aquatic therapy.  Home Health Therapists coordinate their services with each other and nursing services. Home Health staff will also assess the patient's need for outpatient Physical Therapy.
