Diabetes Education

Modern facilities and friendly people will greet you on your visit to Ketchikan Medical Center

More than 23.5 million Americans are estimated to have diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes according to the Centers for Disease Control. That’s 7.8% of the population. Diabetes can’t be cured but people can live a health life and manage the disease with better nutrition, regular exercise and medication.

Anyone can get diabetes, although a hereditary component puts Native Americans, Filipinos and Hawaiians at greater risk.

PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center Diabetes Education Services provides one-on-one counseling as well as group classes to assist diabetic patients in self-managing their diabetes. The service includes a team approach, including services by a registered dietitian and other health care professionals. The program is based on American Diabetes Association recommendations and guidelines. Our coordinator is a registered nurse and certified diabetes educator.
