New Decision Points

Decision Points focus on key medical care decisions that are important for many health problems. Each Decision Point provides an overview of the issues involved in a decision and focuses attention on the information that is most helpful to people as they work with their health professionals to make the decision.

• I have diabetes. Should I get pregnant now?: This new Decision Point discusses the importance of having blood sugar in a normal or near normal range before pregnancy. It also addresses other things a woman needs to know before she tries to get pregnant, such as seeing her doctor to find out if she needs to adjust or change her diabetes medicine. It also lists the risks of getting pregnant when diabetes is not controlled.
• Should I take daily aspirin to prevent a heart attack or a stroke?: This new Decision Point explores the medical facts and personal issues to consider in deciding whether to take a daily aspirin. It looks at the benefits and side effects of aspirin. It also looks at guidelines for who should and shouldn't take daily aspirin.
