Skin color in children

Every child has his or her own usual normal skin color. It is common for newborns and infants to have some lacelike designs on the skin (mottling), especially on the arms and legs.

A child who has difficulty breathing or is severely ill may look gray or mottled with blue lips and fingernails. This can be caused by lack of oxygen or poor circulation of blood.
