Drug and alcohol use if you have HIVUse of intravenous (IV) drugs increases the risk of
HIV progression, although the reasons for this are not
clear. The use of IV drugs makes it more difficult to follow a treatment plan
and increases the risk of transmitting HIV to others. Abuse of marijuana, cocaine (crack), or other drugs, or abuse of
alcohol, also increases the rate of HIV progression.
