Fitz-Hugh–Curtis syndrome

Fitz-Hugh–Curtis syndrome occurs when pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) causes inflammation of the capsule covering the liver and the surrounding area. It causes pain and tenderness in the upper right abdomen over the liver.

This syndrome develops when bacteria enter the abdominal cavity through the fallopian tubes and then follow the flow of peritoneal fluid to the right upper abdomen, where they infect the liver.
