Other conditions with symptoms similar to epilepsy

Other conditions that may cause symptoms similar to seizures caused by epilepsy include:¹

• Fainting and loss of consciousness (syncope).
• Psychogenic seizures (pseudoseizures). These may occur in people with or without epilepsy.
• Migraine headaches.
• Fever seizures (febrile convulsions).
• Muscle twitches or tics.
• Sleep disorders.
• Breath-holding spells.
• Ménière's disease.
• Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs).
