Immunoglobulin E (IgE) and allergiesImmunoglobulins E (IgE) are allergy
antibodies produced by your body's
immune system. IgE is one of several immunoglobulin
classes (such as IgA, IgG, and IgM). Each immunoglobulin class contains many
different and unique antibodies. - IgE levels are generally elevated in people with
allergic diseases (and
asthma), but many of these people may have normal IgE
levels.
- Tests assessing IgE levels in association with skin tests,
medical history, and a physical exam may be useful in diagnosing allergies in
some people.
