Several local businesses are helping to brighten the day of pediatric patients at Sacred Heart Medical Center by hosting toy drives at their Eugene/Springfield locations. The toys collected during the holiday season will be given to children in the Pediatric unit throughout the year.
“A large part of the care we provide to our pediatric patients includes making them feel comfortable during their stay in the hospital,” explains Pediatric Unit Coordinator Theresa McCormick.
For many children, especially those who are too young to understand why they have to stay in the hospital, receiving a toy provides both comfort and a distraction from their illness.
“By providing entertainment with stuffed animals, board games, toys, movies and video games, our patients have an outlet to take their mind off of their illness. It also gives caregivers a wonderful motivational tool to help kids get to the next level of recovery,” McCormick said.
New and unwrapped toys to benefit patients at Sacred Heart Medical Center may be dropped off at the following businesses from Nov. 26 to Dec. 21, 2012:
