Hospice of Sacred Heart's inaugural Walk/Run to Remember is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14. The 2-mile walk/4-mile run begins at Sacred Heart at RiverBend and continues on the Lyle Hatfield Riverside Trail. Prior to the race, at 1 p.m., each participant will have an opportunity to create a memory flag in honor of a departed loved one. Participants are invited to bring a copy of a photo to place on the flag.
Additional Hospice educational information and grief activities will be offered at the event. The registration fee is $20 with a T-shirt or $15 without; click here to register. Race-day registration will also be available until 1:30 p.m.
Participants may also be interested in attending a Hospice-sponsored conference the same weekend. Hospice of Sacred Heart will present Heart, Art & Healing: The Palliative Perspective on Oct. 12, 13 and 14. The conference, for anyone providing end-of-life care in any setting, aims to both inspire and educate on best practices. The conference will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eugene on Oct. 12 and 13, then RiverBend Annex on the 14th, coinciding with the Walk to Remember.
Speakers will include Camille Adair, a hospice nurse educator; Dr. Eric Walsh, a Portland-area hospice physician; Dr. Catherine Bree Johnston, Director of Palliative Care at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham; Megan Cole, an actor and lecturer specializing in medical theater; and Lisa Myobun Freinkel, a lay-ordained Zen Buddhist, Sacred Heart Chaplain Intern and trained instructor in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
The cost of the conference is $75, which includes continental breakfast and lunch. For information, contact Victoria Spear at 541-242-8755.
