Prof Nicollette Ileana Bembenek  Ileana Bembenek, MD
University of Washington School of Medicine

Ileana graduated from the University of Washington with her M.D. in 2012 and received her bachelor of science from UAA/UAF—Anchorage in Toxicology and Molecular Biology. She is an involved parent of two teenage children, learning to play the mandolin and enjoys running, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, camping, fishing and sailing. Ileana is originally from Romania and speaks Romanian, French and Spanish.

Kenneth graduated from the University of Washington with his M.D. in 2012 and also received his bachelor of science in Bioengineering from UW. His interests are in adolescent health and family planning. His hobbies include camping, fishing, snowboarding. Kenneth is also an Eagle Scout. He has organized large shipments of medical equipment to developing countries around the world and spent time in Liberia installing medical equipment in hospitals.

Claire graduated from Loma Linda University with her M.D. in 2012. She received her bachelor of science in Biology from from Pacific Union College—Angwin, CA. She is an active volunteer and is a volunteer coordinator at a community health clinic. She has a strong interest in international medicine, procedures, innovation, holistic care, community needs, equity of care, effective management of resources and developing partnerships with other health professionals.  In her free time she enjoys swimming, running, hiking, camping, travel and rock climbing.

Prof Chelsea Morris
Chelsea Morris, MD

Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine

Chelsea graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with her M.D. in 2012 and received her bachelor of science in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University, where she was a teaching assistant in the chemical engineering department. Her hobbies include basketball, ultimate Frisbee, swimming, theatre, music, reading, skiing, fishing and travel. She is the music chairman and director for her local congregation of 200 people as well as a happy mother of one.

Genoveva O’Neill graduated from the University of Washington with her M.D. in 2012 and received also her bachelor of science in cellular and molecular biology from UW. She is originally from Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish and enjoys serving the Latino community. Her hobbies include photography, music, crafts, singing, traveling, gardening, swimming and her family and church. She is a mother of two.

Lisa graduated from the University of Toledo with her M.D. in 2012 and received her bachelor of science in zoology from Miami University in Ohio. She also has a graduate degree in biology from the University of Northern Colorado. Lisa is interested in teaching and was a graduate teaching assistant in biology. She enjoys reading, traveling, sea kayaking, hiking, wildlife, nature and camping. She has family in the Portland area and is a mother of one.

Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine

Erik graduated from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences with his D.O. in 2012 and received his bachelor of science in psychology from Benedictine College, KS. Erik was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and served two deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. He completed an internship in internal medicine at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was recent married and enjoys model railroading, flying and aviation, running and mentoring.

 Emily graduated from OSHU with her M.D. in 2012 and received her bachelor of science in biology from the University of Chicago. She rotated with FMSW during her senior year and was a student intern and completed an international mission with New Heights with Dr. Baker. She is interested in patient-centered medical home and hopes to practice medicine abroad. She has a mission to serve and her hobbies include running, mountain climbing and reading.

Brian graduated with his Doctor of Medicine degree from Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) in 2013 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry & Biochemistry from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. His hobbies and interests include running, mountain biking, swimming, basketball, football, golfing, gardening, cooking, reading and spending time with his wife.

 

Nelya Pavlenko

 Nelya graduated from Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) in 2013 with her Doctor of Medicine Degree. Nelya attended Clark College in Vancouver before transferring to Washington State University Vancouver, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Nelya speaks Russian and some Ukrainian. In her leisure time she enjoys visiting local coffee shops with her husband, baking European desserts, hosting dinner parties, running on the Portland bridges and composing short reflective pieces.

Caroline graduated from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, Washington with her Doctor of Osteopathy degree in 2013. Her undergraduate schooling was at the University of Washington where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. In her free time, Caroline enjoys being outdoors hiking, camping, biking and Nordic skiing. She also likes to travel, spend time with family, read, sew, knit and cook.

Samantha graduated with her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona in 2013. Samantha attended Arizona State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She is a self-proclaimed yoga enthusiast. Samantha also enjoys trail running, hiking, indoor rock climbing, baking, book clubs, spending time with her nieces, family, friends and dog.

Shelly graduated from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel (Havilah DeBell was also a graduate of Ben-Gurion) in 2013 with her Doctor of Medicine degree. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri. Shelly speaks Hebrew and Spanish, and loves the outdoors, traveling the world, playing ultimate Frisbee, running marathons and triathlons, and spending time with family and friends.

Before California, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. Andrea’s hobbies include cooking, world travel, camping, hiking, swimming, quilting and reading.

 Anna earned her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2013 from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel. Anna received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Her hobbies include long distance running and participating in triathlons and marathons and hiking or biking with family. Anna also sings in a folk music band and writes poetry.

Aaron Zabrinskie  Aaron Zabrinskie, MD University of Washington School of Medicine​    Aaron graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington in 2013 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Geophysics from UW as well. Aaron speaks Spanish and in his free time enjoys climbing, hiking, skiing, and search and rescue.

Samantha CorollaSamantha Carolla, DO

"Sam" completed 

a Sub-Internship with FMSW in November 2013. She graduated from PNWU in May 2014 and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Oregon State University.  She speaks Spanish and has spent time in rotations at the Hopi Health Care Center, an Indian Health Service clinic in Northern Arizona. After residency, she will have a 2-year commitment to the National Health Service Corp Scholarship obligation which will place her in an underserved community. Samantha enjoys yoga, swimming, hiking and traveling in her spare time.

Jeffrey Dart Jeffrey Dart, MD

University of Iowa School of Medicine

In May 2014 Jeffrey received his M.D.  His undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Oregon in Eugene, where Jeffrey was on the Dean’s List. He grew up in Tualatin, Oregon, so he came back to the Pacific Northwest. His desire to go into family medicine comes from volunteering at a free clinic and working closely with Family Physicians during college. His hobbies are playing guitar, singing, songwriting and recording, hiking, exercising, reading, traveling and exploring cities.

Jasminka Mujcic
Jasminka Mujcic, MD

Oregon Health and Science University

Jasminka rotated with FMSW as a 4th year medical student.  She graduated with her M.D. in May 2014 and traveled a long road to get there. Originally from Bosnia, she escaped a war-torn country only to become a refugee in the U.S. and later receive a Bachelor of Sciences at Portland State University. Her family taught her the importance of a strong work ethic and she became an artist while working as an interpreter at Multnomah County. Jasminka enjoys spending time with family, painting printmaking, soccer, cooking and baking. She also belongs to many interest groups.

 

Jaleh Olson

Dr. Olson graduated from OHSU in May 2013 and received a Bachelor of Sciences in microbiology, Spanish and chemistry from OSU in Eugene.  She grew up in Southern Oregon and is very involved with community development with particular focus on children and youth. She speaks Spanish and has received an OHSU Certified Spanish Medical Interpreter Award. In her spare time, she enjoys community development, gardening, plant identification, cooking and baking, camping, hiking, snow shoeing and, most recently, stand-up paddle boarding. 

 

Christopher Pexton  Christopher Pexton, DO Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine
Christopher graduated in May 2014 to receive his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (DO).  He attended OSU in Corvallis for his Bachelor of Science in General Science.  He wanted to become a teacher and taught 10th grade science in Namibia Africa for 2-years.  He hopes his background and passion for teaching will help him become the family physician he desires to be; to serve his community and the profession. His hobbies include paragliding, rock climbing, backpacking, swimming, basketball and stand up paddle boarding.
Anisa Richardson
Anisa Richardson, MD

Oregon Health and Science University

Anisa Graduated from OHSU in May 2014. She grew up in a small village in Alaska and her first inspiration was the “village Doctor" – who was also mechanic, vet, fisherman and high school basketball referee. Anisa speaks Spanish and has traveled 20 countries for global work.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Community Health at Portland State University. Her interests and hobbies include salsa dancing, camping, kayaking, biking, gardening and playing with her husband and children.

 ​  ​Sara Thorson     Sara Thorson, MD University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

Born in Yakima, Washington, Sara returned to the Pacific Northwest after graduating with her M.D. in May 2014.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Public Health at the University of Washington. Sara has traveled the world and experienced so much that she now has a strong desire to work for organizations like Doctors without Borders and prior to medical school, she managed a fitness club in Turkey. She sings, plays guitar, violin and piano. A “Taylor Swift” lookalike, Sara has a spirit for adventure and unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

Matthew grew up on the east coast but has “fallen in love” with the Pacific Northwest. His fiancée is in Seattle and he has gotten to know this as the kind of place he’d like to be.  Through tragedy, he states “people are the conduit for healing/indeed, it was mankind that inspired me to practice medicine”. Interests include integrative health and integrative healing modalities, culinary arts, yoga, massage/bodywork.
