PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center
Measure: Implement a patient fall reduction program that includes an evaluation of the effectiveness of the program.

Time Period Ending:  3/31/2013

What We Are Doing:

A falls reduction program is fully implemented at Ketchikan Medical Center and New Horizon's Transitional Care Unit.   Every patient is assessed for fall risk and several unique prevention strategies are employed to prevent patients from falling and reduce the chance of harm from falling.  Interventions may includes the use of bed alarms, lowering the bed close to the floor, hourly rounding, room modifications, and other strategies.  Falls that do occur are fully analyzed and patients and residents are assessed for harm each and every time. Questions may be routed to:  Barbara Bigelow, VP Quality at 907-821-1990.
