| Measure: Develop and test practices for preventing surgical site infections that will be fully implemented by January 1, 2010 Time Period Ending: 12/31/2012 What We Are Doing: NPSG.07.05.01 - Implement evidence-based practices for preventing surgical site infections. Our surgical team is committed to preventing surgical site infections. St. John participates in a "Surgical Care Improvement Project" (SCIP), and we know antibiotic timing before surgery is critical. This program includes a protocol for giving pre surgical antibiotics at a very specific time and stopping them when indicated after surgery. We also limit ourselves to using only chlorohexadine, the most effective and least irritating solution, for pre-operative skin preparation. We understand that there are risks with any surgery, so we carefully screen for any possible health conditions that might affect your recovery before your operation begins. |
