What We Are Doing:

Left Ventricular Function (LVF) is a measurement of how well the heart is able to pump oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the rest of the body. It's important information for doctors to have when choosing the best medications for patients with heart failure. LVF can be measured internally by placing a very thin catheter through an artery all the way into the heart as part of other measurements. More often this measurement is done with the painless use of ultrasound equipment.

We know which patient has received an LVF assessment in the past, which patient has received one during their admission, and which patient is scheduled to receive one in the near future. We want to ensure that we provide this vital assessment to all of our patients who would benefit from it. Admission orders are set up so that a patient's doctor can easily order this test when necessary.

We have full-time and part-time cardiologists on staff, including heart failure specialists, helping to refine our program to provide care of the highest level.
