What We Are Doing:

Proven research shows that proper hair removal is vital in reducing the risk of a surgical site infection. At PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center, we do not use razors because they can cause microscopic abrasions of the skin where bacteria can grow. Instead, clippers are used and patients are taught how to correctly use them to remove hair from the surgical site prior to their surgery.
