|Measure: Venous thromboembolism prophylaxis received|
Time Period Ending: 9/30/2012
What We Are Doing:
Venous thromboembolisms, DVT, pulmonary embolisms are all blood clots. They can form anywhere blood travels. Proven research shows that certain medications and mechanical compression devices ("leg squeezers") can greatly reduce the risk of blood clots forming after surgery. These medications or devices are ordered for all of our surgical patients. Staff members involved with the surgical patient are responsible for delivering this standard of care. We review care continuously to ensure that not only are these therapies ordered, but that the orders are carried out.
