PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center
Measure: Aspirin at arrival

Time Period Ending:  12/31/2012

Rate: 100%

What We Are Doing:

Our goal is that 100% of appropriate patients receive aspirin within 24 hours of their arrival.

Protocols were created for the Emergency Department nurses and physicians that initiate the right care as soon as possible.

Admission orders for Inpatients automatically order aspirin if it has not been given or if there is not a documented reason that it would be contraindicated.

What you can do:

The first thing to do at the first sign of a heart attack is call 911.

They may recommend taking an aspirin. Aspirin taken early during a heart attack can help improve your chances for survival.

Don't take aspirin and wait for symptoms to go away. Always call for emergency help first.
