Why It Is Important
High blood sugar can increase the risk of infection for surgical patients, especially patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

Surgery patients with controlled 6 a.m. blood glucose on postoperative day 1 and day 2.

Denominator Definition
Cardiac surgery patients with no evidence of prior infection and a principle procedure code matching a list of selected ICD-9-CM surgical codes.
