In more than 13 years of practice, Dr. Bolz has cared for entire generations of families, from newborns to their grandparents. But when the rigors of solo practice began to take too much time away from his own family, he decided it was time to return to Oregon.
And now, he says, he has more time to spend with his family, and with his family of patients.
Dr. Bolz is also a clinical instructor at Oregon Health Sciences University and admits, however, that there are some things only experience can teach.
"You have to be able to understand more than what your patients tell you," he says; "you have to understand what they mean. You have to understand what they're not telling you or the way they might use a gesture to describe a pain. You have more insight if you know the family as a whole. In a family, one person's problems aren't limited to just that individual; they're influenced by-and can affect-the entire family." |
