From the age of six, I had the dream that I would become a doctor. I also have always loved children. My favorite summer job was that of camp counselor for the Girl Scouts and Campfire organizations. It was through this work that I was introduced to the Pacific Northwest.

I grew up in a suburb of Cleveland. My undergraduate education was from the University of Cincinnati and I then attended Medical School at the same institution. My MD with honors in Pediatrics was granted in 1980. Two days before graduation I married Dr. David Fryefield. (We met in the library at the medical college). A few days after graduating we packed up the VW Rabbit and headed back to the west.

My pediatric residency training was at Oakland Children's Hospital in Oakland, California from 1980 to 1984. I was chosen to be Chief resident during my final year. In this position, I supervised and taught other residents. I successfully passed Board Certification exams in 1985 and am a long-term member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

David trained to be a Radiation Oncologist and is currently director of the Willamette Valley Cancer Institute in Eugene. Eugene seemed the perfect choice to raise a family (3 daughters) and pursue our careers.

I have greatly enjoyed the practice of general pediatrics. I was chosen by my peers to serve in leadership roles at PeaceHealth Medical Group and at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Recently, the Eugene Magazine (Summer 2009) listed me as one of the top ten pediatricians in the Eugene area. I am accepting new patients from birth through age 18. I strive to make the experience at my office personal and positive for all. Working as a team with parents and caregivers, I look for practical solutions, and limit use of antibiotics, imaging tests and medical interventions as much as possible. In the rare situation in which a baby or child needs hospitalization I admit patients to the Pediatric unit of Sacred Heart at RiverBend. I follow my patients personally throughout their hospital stay.

My interests and hobbies include piano, hiking, observing birds and wildlife, ballroom dancing, reading and cross country skiing.
