Dr. Fortner was born July 25th, 1951 in Washington D.C. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, in 1973. He was awarded his medical degree from the University of Michigan, in 1977. Dr. Fortner completed his surgical residency training at the University of Washington Medical Center in 1982. He did a post graduate fellowship in Vascular Surgery, also at the University of Washington. He joined the staff at Longview Surgical Group in July 1984.
Dr. Fortner and his wife, Eleen have a son and a daughter. Eleen is an anesthesiologist. They enjoy skiing, biking and traveling.
Dr. Fortner is certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery. He is also board certified in Vascular Surgery. Vascular surgery includes treatment of disorders of the arteries and veins. He has admitting privileges at St. John Medical Center (Longview, Washington) and S.W. Washington Medical Center (Vancouver, Washington). In addition, he consults and treats patients in conjunction with surgeons at Oregon Health Sciences University and the University of Washington. Dr. Fortner holds medical licenses in the States of Washington, Oregon and California.
