Breastfeeding Basics and Beyond
This course is designed to provide the expectant woman and her support person(s) basic information necessary to initiate and sustain breastfeeding. Topics covered include preparation, getting started, solving challenges, resources, support, and mother-baby separation.
Take anytime during pregnancy. New classes start every other month.

Cesarean Education
A one-session class designed for those anticipating a cesarean delivery. The class explains hospital admitting, birth preparation, options, and expectations.

Take anytime during pregnancy. Offered every other month in the evening.

Childbirth Preparation: Pregnancy and Childbirth (& Refresher)
5 sessions, plan to start in your sixth month of pregnancy

This condensed series provides information on pregnancy, labor, and birth, including comfort measures and labor support and is a great refresher option. Postpartum topics covered include newborn care and breastfeeding, parenting adjustments and resources. A post-birth reunion is included.
Bring several pillows and a blanket or soft mat to class. The recommended handbook, "Pregnancy, Childbirth & the Newborn" revised 2008, is available in the Bellingham Technical College bookstore. Class sponsored by St. Joseph Hospital and Bellingham Technical College.

Childbirth Preparation: Preparation for Childbirth and Parenting
8 sessions, plan to start in your sixth month of pregnancy

This traditional course covers late pregnancy, the process of labor and birth, labor coping skills (with many in-class practice sessions), newborn care and breastfeeding, postpartum, and early parenting. Weekly classes help connect families with peers, and a post-birth reunion is included.
Bring several pillows and a blanket or soft mat to class. The recommended handbook, "Pregnancy, Childbirth & the Newborn" revised 2008, is available in the Bellingham Technical College bookstore. Class sponsored by St. Joseph Hospital and Bellingham Technical College.

Childbirth Preparation: Weekend Condensed
2 sessions, plan to start in your seventh or eighth month of pregnancy

This condensed format will provide an overview of late pregnancy, the birth process, labor coping skills, newborns and breastfeeding.
Saturday class time is 8:30 am-5:30 pm. Sunday class time is 12:30-5:30pm.

Bring several pillows and a blanket or soft mat to class. The recommended handbook, “Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn,” revised 2008, is available in the Bellingham Technical College bookstore and should be read prior to this weekend course. Class sponsored by St. Joseph Hospital and Bellingham Technical College.

Childbirth Refresher
If you have taken a childbirth preparation course for a previous pregnancy, we recommend that you sign up for the Pregnancy and Childbirth course, the Childbirth Preparation: Weekend Course, or the HypnoBirthingTM course.

HypnoBirthingTM
5 sessions - Start in 6th or 7th month of pregnancy

HypnoBirthing prepares women and partners for natural, physiologic birth. Using techniques like visualization, guided imagery, and special breathing patterns, women learn to remain in control and aware while deeply relaxed, to eliminate fears and to build trust in their inherent ability to give birth. Required handbook and CD are included. This is a self support class, so is not eligible for First Steps waivers.
