NRP Debrief the Debriefer

The NRP Hospital Based Instructor Course offered at Sacred Heart Medical Center is an 8-hour class designed to prepare eligible candidates to teach NRP Provider classes at their institution. Upon successful completion of the course, the instructor candidate will be ready to co-teach two courses with an instructor mentor. Instructor status must be achieved within 1 year of application approval with the AAP.
Each instructor candidate will be coached through scenario construction. Participants will take part in the simulation of that scenario, and the candidate will then debrief participants. Each debriefing is followed by a “debrief the debriefer” session where our faculty provide expert feedback to participants to enhance their ability to deliver constructive, objective and concise debriefings.
Our NRP Instructor Course utilizes simulation-based methodologies and high-fidelity mannequins in accordance with the AAP/NRP 7th Edition. Our emphasis has changed from "teaching NRP" to "facilitating learning". Learners completing our Instructor Course will be able to create and conduct scenarios using tactile, visual and auditory cues; and conduct effective debriefings. Our course also covers the administrative tasks within the NRP Instructor's role.
