Cardiovascular Wellness and Rehabilitation
The Oregon Heart & Vascular Institute provides a physician-supported wellness and rehabilitation care program at its 12,000-square-foot facility at Sacred Heart Medical Center, RiverBend. The facility includes gyms, classrooms and a demonstration kitchen for use by cardiac and pulmonary patients, as well as non-disease manifested people who want to attain good health.
Cardiac care, including exercise, dietary guidance, holistic health, and tobacco cessation programs, is critical to patients' long-term success in coping with chronic disease. "This is not just cardiac rehabilitation," said Program Manager Sarah Grall, MS. "It's a disease-management and wellness program."
Nearly 70 percent of patients choose to use the institute's wellness and rehabilitation services for ongoing health management after a cardiovascular or pulmonary crisis. The longer cardiovascular patients stay with outpatient rehabilitation programs, the better their health and the lower the rate of subsequent events.

Two times per day, cardiac rehabilitation staff assess post-surgical patients at the Oregon Heart & Vascular Institute. This approach, implemented in 2009, has resulted in lower complication rates, shorter hospital stays, and higher patient satisfaction.
