Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend—High Touch Care with
State-of-the-Art Technology

Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend houses the most advanced medical technology to ensure quality patient outcomes. Because technology tends to change rapidly, the building has been designed for flexibility, so we can make upgrades as needed.

In addition, we’ve invested in technology with the patient in mind, and our state-of-the-art equipment spans all levels of patient care: from an advanced CT scanner to view the heart to an oversized elevator that can fit an entire trauma team.

For emergencies, our helipad can accommodate a Black Hawk helicopter in the event that a rescue mission ends with a transport to Sacred Heart at RiverBend. Before RiverBend was available, a large helicopter like a Black Hawk would have to land at the airport and the patient would be transported via ambulance.

Some of the hospital's technology, like the extensive pneumatic tube system, is not seen by the casual observer, but greatly affects patient care at Sacred Heart at RiverBend. The pneumatic tubes are six inches across and span 2.2 miles within the hospital. The tubes also run underground six-tenths of a mile from the hospital to the RiverBend Annex, which houses a state-of-the-art compounding pharmacy and PeaceHealth Laboratories. The tube system allows us to send supplies, lab specimens, pharmaceuticals and IV fluids quickly and efficiently. This speeds up the process to give caregivers more time at the bedside, while also allowing clinicians to make faster decisions regarding your care.

Architect Todd Tierney, AIA, describes the design of the hospital's helipad.
